The Turkish shipyard Sirena Yachts has decided to work in two directions: to develop its line of custom superyachts and to expand its range with shorter yachts. The former is still underway, while the latter, the Sirena 48, was on display at the Cannes Boat Show. At the end of the show, this yacht was awarded the World Yachts Trophies as the most economical yacht.
Long years of working with yachts and shipyards make you compare them with people and try to guess their «temperament». Some of them turn out to be romantics and fantasists, while others never throw words to the wind. Sirena Yachts is one of the latter. The smallest yacht in the lineup, the Sirena 48 (actual length 53 feet), was announced in January at the Düsseldorf Boat Show, and in September at the Cannes Yachting Festival she was already welcomed on board. Of course, it would not have been presented in winter if the first hulls had not been under construction (we remember that Sirena Yachts employs thorough people).
The Sirena 48 (a joint project of the shipyard and the famous yacht designer and constructor Hermann Frers) is positioned as a yacht that can be self-driven by the owner. However, Sirena Yachts would not be itself if it did not provide an option for those who are not yet ready to take over the management of the yacht and all the associated hassles. The yard offers the future owner of a Sirena 48 a choice of four aft main deck configurations: a full-fledged single crew cabin with separate entrance; a nearly 4-square-meter storage area for water toys and other equipment with a full-size door. with a full-size door; with a large sun bed in the swim platform area and a locker; with a spacious recreation area with sofas in the cockpit, located to starboard and port, with a bulwark of transparent glass and a small storage compartment, accessible as a garage from the swim platform (lowered hydraulically). This is the layout chosen by the owner of the first hull of the Sirena 48 shown at Cannes. It’s a great way to have another full salon where you can host guests, have your morning coffee or evening aperitif, serve breakfast, all with the undeniable advantage of direct sea views.
It should be noted that the sea view on board the Sirena 48 is also good indoors. This model has high panoramic windows in the salon, so even when you hide from the heat or bad weather, there is no feeling of confined space. Especially nice is the fact that the open kitchen, which is located at the entrance to the saloon on the left, also has a window with an opening porthole. Whoever is serving as the chef will not feel isolated either from socializing or from the view of the water.
Overall, the Sirena 48 salon is a well-planned area. The captain, if he is at the main control station located on the starboard side, has a comfortable workplace. Those who wish to keep him company can sit on the corner sofa by the window on the left. Here you can also watch TV, play board games, and a spare sleeping place from the sofa and a table on a telescopic leg is made very simply. So feel free to invite guests to stay the night. The owner of the Sirena 48 presented at Cannes chose the Serenity interior finish in warm honey tones. For this model, the shipyard offers two more options: Inspiration (light gray) and Elegance (dark wood).
Continuing our exploration of the Sirena 48, we went down to the lower deck, where three double cabins are equipped. There are three classic cabins: a VIP cabin forward, a master cabin amidships and a third, with twin beds, on the starboard side. The guest cabins have shared facilities (importantly, with a full shower), while the owner has his own — and very spacious — bathroom.
«For dessert we left the flybridge. First of all, only from here you can appreciate the size of the forward «solarium» on the deck below! A family of four can easily accommodate here. And for sure they will not want to leave: there are convenient holders for soft drinks and sunscreen, and in the legs — a sofa, from which you can not only watch the sunset, but also make beautiful photos. Secondly, the flybridge of Sirena 48 is a combination of long proven and new-fashioned solutions in the field of ergonomics of space and separate pieces of furniture. For example, the large sunbed in front of the second control station (located on the port side) is equipped with movable headrests, with the help of which it can be easily transformed from a «solarium» into a sofa. And two tables on the sides under the overhang of the hardtop become a dining area for a large family. A refrigerator, ice storage, sink and grill make the Sirena 48’s flybridge the most popular spot on board: securely sheltered from prying eyes and the sun, or open to it if you want to sunbathe, you can dine, read and admire the views.
As for the performance of the Sirena 48, we would like to mention two of its indisputable advantages. This model (transitional type hull made of fiberglass combined with carbon fiber) has a very small draft — a little more than a meter, which practically does not limit the future owner in any way in planning trips. Sirena Yachts is actively gaining ground in the American market, and in Florida and the Caribbean, shallow draft is the key to success for yacht sales. The second advantage is the variability of speed capabilities: the Sirena 48 can reach 24 knots (and even 27 knots if equipped with a pair of 670 hp Volvo Penta D11 engines on angular gearbox shafts), and can go at a comfortable speed of 10 knots, stretching the fuel reserve for more than 477 miles. The basic variant — two Cummins QSB 6.7 with 550 hp each.
